Any Body’s Cool provides an opportunity to start a conversation about body image at your school.

Our workshops and resources provide students and teachers with common language and an evidenced-based framework to start a meaningful discussion around body image. Our program is mapped to the Australian Curriculum for Health and Physical Education.

Overview

By the end of this program you should be able to:

After completion of this workshop participants will be able to support the delivery of the Any Body’s Cool student workshop (as delivered by MIEACT).

Participants will reflect on how their attitudes, behaviours and language impact young people’s body image. Participants will become familiar with language associated with body image and develop strategies of how to create body image friendly environments through their interactions with young people. Common myths and stigmas associated with size and shape will also be explored.

Participants will have access to resources to enable them to identify and support students with critical body image concerns and refer them to suitable support services; and resources to further student learning and their own personal/professional learning.

By the end of this program you should be able to:

After completion of this workshop participants will have a clear understanding of ‘body image’ and its relation to thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Participants will have the ability to critically analyse messages from media, family and friends. Participants will have identified healthy strategies for managing their physical and mental health and will know where to go for help if they are struggling with their mental health.

Who Should Attend

This course is suitable for all young people in Years 7 and 8, teaching staff and school support staff including counsellors, nurses, youth workers and teacher’s assistants.

Student workshops are limited to 25 participants per workshop. Teacher Education Workshops have a minimum attendance requirement (this relates to staff directly involved in the student aspects of the program) and is suitable for year teams, student welfare/wellbeing teams or all school staff.

Student content has been mapped to the Australian Curriculum for Health and Physical Education and is also suitable use in pastoral care or wellbeing programs.

Any Body’s Cool Student Workshop (Young Women)

· Understand what ‘body image’ is and its relation to how we feel about ourselves in general

· Able to critically analyse messages from media, family and friends

· Understand the link between physical and mental health

· Know where to go for help with mental health concerns

· Mapped to the Australian Curriculum for Health and Physical Education
