Mental Illness Education ACT (MIEACT) is proud to release its Annual Report for 2024–25, detailing a year of expanded reach, strengthened programs, and deepened community impact in mental health education across the Canberra region. Over the past year, MIEACT has continued its mission to increase mental health literacy, reduce stigma, promote help-seeking behaviours and empower individuals through lived-experience education.
The 2024–25 year saw MIEACT build on its position as the primary local provider of evidence-informed mental health education for schools, workplaces and community groups. With sustained demand for school-based mental health programs, MIEACT delivered sessions that reached thousands of young people and adults, further embedding critical knowledge and skills in mental health awareness and early intervention.
At the centre of the organisation’s work remains the DoNOHarm Framework, a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented model that guides all lived-experience education and communication about mental illness safely and effectively. MIEACT’s training not only equips young people and professionals with practical tools for mental health understanding but also supports safe, respectful conversations around lived experience, helping organisations and individuals navigate these often-challenging topics with confidence.
This year’s report highlights the value of collaboration with local schools, workplaces and partners across the Canberra region. MIEACT’s partnerships strengthened the delivery of core programs, including Youth Aware of Mental Health (YAM) in high schools in partnership with the ACT Government, reinforcing shared efforts to support young people’s mental health literacy and resilience.
The Annual Report acknowledges both the successes and the opportunities ahead as MIEACT continues responding to community need. With ongoing support from volunteers, staff, educators, and funding partners, MIEACT is well positioned to build on this year’s achievements, championing safe lived-experience storytelling, expanding program access, and supporting mental health education throughout all stages of life.
